This
Spartan twin size bed is a design variation of our high storage twin bed plan
#05-214. (For other variation design,
view the bedroom section on our website). Beneath the mattress are six large drawers suspended on strong
and easy-to-open ball-bearing slides. This is very practical as it converts unused
space into an under-bed dresser! A sturdy frame and platform support
contain the mattress, thus eliminating the need for that space-wasting box
spring. You may choose to have drawers on only one side if the bed is to lie
against a wall. Drawers are constructed using dado/rabbet joinery.
The bed is built using plywood and hardwood
products and incorporates simple joinery techniques. Most of the fastening for
the bed frame assembly uses corner zinc braces and screws, thus allowing for
easy assembly/disassembly. We’ll show you how to easily create the simple
fluted lines and dentil trim that adorn this piece of furniture.
This
bed will accommodate a twin (long) size mattress in the range of 39" by 80".
For those who plan on using a standard twin mattress, instructions are
also included for a 39" x 75" mattress. Note that extra space around the mattress is allotted for bedding. The bed has
a mattress height of approx. 19" when using a 7" thick mattress.
Overall dimensions: 46" wide by 86" long
and 31 1/2" high at headboard/footboard, 14" high at bed rail.
Inside dimensions:
42" wide by 81" long for a twin mattress (long) and 42" wide by 76 1/2" long for
a standard twin mattress.
