A blanket chest may look simple or may even be
fancy, but its function is the same: storage. When making a blanket chest, we
think first of where we will put it. In some cases, it ends up in a basement
closet where no one can see it or, it may be displayed at the end of your bed.
This particular chest is appealing to the eye, yet quick and easy to build for
the amateur. You do not need sophisticated tools to build it.
The dimensions of a blanket chest can vary
greatly. You must keep in mind that the bigger it is the more room it takes to
store. Also, if you need to get something at the bottom of it, you will be
digging through piles of stuff. And believe me; a blanket chest fills up
quickly, as it seems there is no end to what one can store in it.
Many variations can be added to this project,
such as the length and width and the panel edging but we recommend keeping the
width between 12 and 24 inches, and the depth (height) between 16 and 24 inches.
The length may range from 30 to 60 inches.
Finish used for this project: Minwax Accents, Midnite Blue, semi-transparent
water-based stain, covered by Flecto Varathane Diamond Wood Satin Finish, a
water-based protective finish.
Overall
dimensions: 16" wide x 42" long x 22" high
